Everything You Need to Know

What should I expect the first day of class?

Coach MJ will be in the water working one-on-one with your child. Almost all children protest the first few days however once they realize it is a loving and safe environment they stop crying and start swimming!  On day 6 we ask the parent/s to participate by swimming with their new little swimmer.  Coach Mj will teach you techniques and skills to use with your new swimmer to ensure continued advancement after the course.

What should I bring for my child to class?

A towel, change of cloths and a swim diaper for those children who are not potty trained.  No floating devices or goggles will be allowed.

Will I as the parent stay for the lesson and do we also get in the pool?

Yes, parents will stay for the lessons.  I ask for the first few days that you don't interact with your child while they are in the lesson because I want them to focus on what coach is telling them.  The last day the parent/s will be in the pool where I will get you rolling with your new swimmer.  I do encourage parents to take photos and videos of the lessons.

Will my child learn to swim

Without a doubt, yes!  Most beginners will be swimming in 3-4 days.  During the week you will see other children different ages and various levels of abilities.  As a parent and as a coach I have learned that it is  important to not compare your child's ability with other children.

Can my child eat before class?

Yes, but please keep it light for the first few days.  As they become more comfortable in the pool there will be no limitations.

Is the pool heated?

The pool will be heated to 90 degrees in the winter months.

Are classes cancelled due to weather?

Class will be held in all weather conditions except in the case of thunder and lightning.  Class cancellation will be determined onsite once you arrive for your lesson that day.

Will my child learn different swimming strokes?

The use of arms under the age of 3 is minimal at best.  Since the child is on his/her feet, those muscles are more developed resulting in the child's legs providing the forward movement.  The arms become more involved in swimming around 3.5 years of age.  The first are movements usually the dog paddle. The next progression of learning is breast stroke (or what I call big circles), then on to free style.

How much does it cost?

Tuition is $525 due on the 3rd day of class.  There is a second child and military discounts.  Checks can be made out to Mjs Little Dolphins.

I'm not comfortable in the water how will I swim with my child?

Even if you are uneasy, you should appear happy and your child will acclimate.  Coach will work with you so that you too are comfortable with your child's skill level.
